Ladies: why do you all have such long hair?

Is it because it's more versatile? More feminine? Would you be scared to see it go?

The reason I ask is that I love shorter hairstyles (shorter than ear length) on women, but I hardly see any women with their hair short. It's daring and you can see so much more of your beautiful faces.

My hair is longer now, but back when I first started college, I cut it all off really short. I liked it like that, but I didn't like not being able to pull it back in a ponytail or anything.

I'm 38 and I had super short hair in my 20's and it looked HORRIBLE on me. I let it grow out and it is now to the middle of my back, just as long as I had it as a child. Much easier to deal with since it's all one length. I can cut it when I want to and not have to worry about layering. The salons here will charge you for a full service to have an inch taken off. No thanks.

I think its because girls like to style their hair in different ways and shorter hair doesn't let you do that.

But I don't know for sure because I have short hair, to my chin. I think it looks better (on me) than long hair though.
